1st Generation 1982-1990

The pajero/montero debuted in 1982 as a new multi-purpose vehicle. This was a completely new genre 4WD that distinguished itself from the military-style Spartan 4WDs of its time. Unlike the 4WDs of the early 80´s, wich sacrificed confort for the ability to the last the course, Mitsubishi developed a 4WD that offered good handling and a confotable ride so that any driver could enjoy outstanding drive performance that look rough roads in stride. The pajero/Montero´s development phisolopy was also seen in the generous introduction of numbers os amenable features that surpass those of many passenger cars. The early use of a rear coil suspension instead of leaf springs - usual for rear suspensions at the time - is a reflection of this philosophy.
